Re: Star Wars Episode IX (SPOILERS ALLOWED)
I've had quite a bit to drink tonight, so I'll keep my comments succinct: Rise of Skywalker made me despise The Last Jedi so much more than I already did, mostly because Disney wasted an entire movie on a nonsense plot and sub-par character "development," rather than using the middle movie...

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (SPOILERS ALLOWED)
I really enjoyed it. Went in with low expectations and came out very satisfied. I thought Donald Glover was great as Lando. I enjoyed the Han and Chewie dynamic. No, it wasn't Harrison Ford caliber performance of Han, but I don't care. I'd watch this every day of the week and twice on Sunday over Th...

Re: Solo: A Star Wars Story (SPOILERS ALLOWED)
That's an interesting point of view, Zapp, when you think about it. We've had changes in Bond, Batman, Superman, Obi-Wan, and we've accepted them all for the most part. But yet it seems so much harder with Star Wars. That's a fair point, but I would argue in regards to the first three, there is suc...

Re: NOVEL: Thrawn
Pre-ordered it, read it in a couple of days when it came out. Loved it. Fresh but familiar take on our favorite Grand Admiral. It was a lot of fun to get chapters from Thrawn's point of view. I really enjoyed Zahn's nods to his original trilogy while still giving us a new origins story. Absolutely c...

Finished Chapter One. I like the story's introduction. A couple of things caught my attention notes-wise; if you'd like to chat about them, feel free to PM me.
Planning on getting to Chapter 2 tomorrow, off to bed now!

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS ALLOWED)
I couldn't agree more with the posts about the poor quality of the new books. I hated the Aftermath books. I thought Tarkin was quite good. Currently reading Phasma and I'm struggling to keep going. I don't know what it is with the present-tense, simplistic style but I do not like it. I also agree ...

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS ALLOWED)
I think, to state the obvious, Disney would have been much better served by selecting writers and directors ahead of time and fleshing out a coherent overall story arc much like the authors of the New Jedi Order book series did. While each author was free to explore the finer details of their own no...

Oh I agree. I suppose we're probably better off that way. A character like Thrawn belongs in our own individual imaginations; I don't trust anyone except Zahn to write a movie about him.Zapp Brannigan wrote: ↑January 4th, 2018, 2:51 pmHaha. As sick as that would be, I will bet you $10,000 he isn't making the Thrawn Trilogy.

Re: Fan Fiction: The Secret History of Boba Fett - Pt. 2: Impact
I loved the Fett trilogy that took place immediately after the Sarlacc, but as you said, all of that got wiped out. I'd like to see new Fett stuff in the canon, but unfortunately Lucas made Fett a clone so they're kind of stuck with actor options for him.

Re: Spoilers: So what is the situation in the galaxy?
I feel like that is kind of a huge deal and it was explained and moved past in a manner of like 10 seconds. Kind of crappy story telling there. Also, to the OP's question....I'm in the same boat. I had this discussion today with a friend of mine who saw TLJ on opening night with me. We both think t...

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS ALLOWED)
Initial thoughts are that I really liked it, but am still processing. Spoiler warning, which seems redundant considering this is a spoiler thread, but I will say that, through two movies, Phasma and Snoke were both incredibly under-developed characters. Phasma, ok, but will we ever find out who Sno...

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS ALLOWED)
Would it be legitimate to say that Luke was vastly underused as well? My biggest disappointment with TFA was its underusing of Luke, and his lack of screen time and dialogue. This film gave us an entirely unexpected evolution of Luke Skywalker and his path on that island took too long to bring him ...

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS ALLOWED)
I really despise Poe Dameron. He should have died in the crash on Jakku. Rose - useless and annoying. So she wanted to save Finn from killing himself by crashing into his ship and killing both of them? Great idea. the splicer, DJ i think his name was, even more annoying. Was given too much prominen...

Re: Spoilers: So what is the situation in the galaxy?
Now in the TLJ, which takes place immediately after TFA, the New Republic is completely over-run? When did that happen? In a galaxy full of planets, a few are destroyed and the whole republic collapses? The entirety of the New Republic government was destroyed in the Hosnian system. I feel like tha...

Re: Star Wars Episode VIII: The Last Jedi (SPOILERS ALLOWED)
There are elements I absolutely did not like. Certain parts of the story could have been axed--and some characters, too--while other areas could have used more time. I was really hoping for more on The Island, but it's not fair to hold the movie to the standard of what I wanted. I think The Island s...
