Re: Symbolism and Comparisons in Films
All right, so this is completely unrelated to your first post (I still haven't seen Jaws), but I wanted to get a few brief thoughts down, Godfather-related, and thought why not use this thread. The movies were on a few weekends ago, and I was watching here and there. When Mike's with his father at t...

Re: Last Movie Watched
Well, it was a more visually rewarding display in RO, and he had demonstrated the same techniques in the OT, but with nowhere near the same sense of speed and shall we call it, "determination"? Determination, more than speed. The latter also felt true to what we'd seen from Vader before. ...

Re: Last Television Show Watched
I never really felt the program was boring until they arrived Alexandria. "Boring" was the wrong word on my part. Let's say tedious, perhaps. Segments have felt redundant, or like they've gone on for too long. There are some very weird references in it, some political, some not (last week...

That said, I'm not having as much fun with it as I did in the earlier seasons, for reasons I won't go into in details about since you're not caught up. Suffice it to say that I think they're having having some trouble because of the constraints production places on the story. I think you're right. ...

Oh, boy...haven't read comics regularly in a while. The last, and this was sometime last year I think, was probably the first couple issues of DC's Injustice. Or maybe some digital Star Trek comics.

Re: What's the last book you read?
I hate to admit this (mostly because I'll catch shit for it), but I think I like the Hobbit films better than the book. No, you're absolutely right. It was the cool thing to just dump on the movies, but most either hadn't read the book, or didn't remember it. Even Del Toro first had the reaction th...

Isn't that kind of like saying you ate food. How about some specifics?
I last ate lunch...which was a fish sandwich from Wendy's (supposedly North Pacific cod or something fancy sounding) with fries and fruit punch.

The X-Files , Season One: "Young at Heart." I continue to be amazed that the program made such an impact at the time, until, of course, I recall the time, which I do just before nodding off and missing the payoff, as I did last night. I don't think I ever saw the first season. Maybe not e...

Re: Last Movie Watched
There is one thing that might creep into my mind while I'm watching ANH in the future, arising from having seen R1: the amazing inconsistency in Vader's abilities from the "earlier" film to the "later" film. I'm certainly glad they didn't stick to the piss-poor "fig...

Saw Passengers two nights ago. It entertained, but doesn't seem like it'll stick with me much. I enjoyed the first Act a lot, in particular the humor in this advanced ship having technology seemingly no smarter than Amazon's Alexa. The android bartender was fun. Chris Pratt did well conveying the sh...

Raging Bull. Very good, but as with my viewing of Southpaw, I did not care for the main character so it was hard to root for him. Exactly the problem I had. Saw it years ago, and have had zero interest in revisiting it because I hated LaMatta so much. Star Wars: Rogue One. Wow, just fucking wow. Sa...

I'm sorry I missed replying to this! To tell you the truth, I don't remember all of the original music, it has been along time since I watched the original. RO has been purchased! We went with Target, it's the only one that has 2 exclusive extras. How good are those exclusive extras? I've been wrestling with whether to buy it now, or wait for a lower price. Hugely disappointed there's no commentary track, which is part of why I'm hesitant to buy it at ...

Oh my god, Tesla. Do us all a favor and NEVER see this movie. You seem to be pre-disposed to not liking it, that even if you do see it, debating you about it's merits will be such a futile exercise. But, I've got a copy arriving Tuesday. So, based on our discussion in the "last movie watched&q...

The last good Star Wars film was ESB, and that was a long time ago, in cinemas far, far away. We shall not see its like again. I liked the prequels, especially ROTS. And, I liked Rogue One . So I do think there will be more SW movies that I like and consider good. I'm sure a great one will come up ...

To me, The Force Awakens is the superior film, which is not to say that The Force Awakens was any great shakes, just a lot better shakes than this...thing. I still wish TFA never existed, that they'd started with Rogue One and allowed more time to put out a better thought out Episode VII. I find TF...

Some dingleberry of a flick called Rogue One . I give it an F. A Negative 10--thousand, that is: negative ten thousand. In words of one syllable, it stank. It sucked. It blew. It made my eye hurt. Sure, why not? Secondary doesn't mean non-existent. Just because the show isn't centered around his exploits doesn't preclude him not being a big part of the happenings. I never said anything about him being non-existent. In general, I'm puzzled about establishing a "lead character" in wh...

I thought it was solid, but not much more than that. No complaints, just maybe a bit too much formulaic. Formulaic. That's the word I was looking for before when saying the movie is like so many other superhero movies, origins in particular. It's funny, because I am absolutely in the bag for Marvel...

But the hand injuries go back to the Origin, and Ditko and Lee were influenced by other things than Tony Stark, especially the Downey-Stark, when they created Dr. Strange. Oh, sure. The facial hair, perhaps. Otherwise, nothing jumps out at me, unless a little bit the smart-assery. Well, yeah, there's the facial hair. But definitely the "smart-assery". And the physical injury that starts him on the path to becoming something more. Beauty and the Beast- A It was great!...

Doctor Strange . Not bad. Not great, but not bad. It reminded me of certain portions of Batman Begins , really. And Stephen Strange seemed almost like a cross between Christian Bale's Batman/Bruce Wayne and Chris Pratt's Peter Quill. And some of Downey's Tony Stark. It basically followed the templa...

I haven't been watching anything regularly, so I'm way behind. Still have to watch the most recent season of "House of Cards." I've seen both seasons of Daredevil, but have yet to have started any of the others. Next thing I watch on there will probably be a movie. Likely, Mulholland Drive.
